He also thanked all founders of the university for having come up with the idea of establishing Amoud University because the university since it's inception has managed to support so many students from Puntland, Garowe, Somaliland and all parts of the horn of Africa. Furthermore on his part he said a big thank you to all deans and directors for the efforts they have put over the years, contributing immensely to Amoud's current status and including for the preparations leading up to the graduation ceremony successfully held on Saturday, October 10th, 2020 and encouraged them to put in even more effort in their work. "If everyone cleans in front of his house, every street would be clean", he said. To Prof. Suleiman he said it was not in vain that he had dedicated so much of his life time, almost 53 years of service to see Amoud University where it was today because the fruits were finally all there for all and sundry to see.
Prof. Derie on his part emphasized the need for team work and stated that this close cooperation and synchrony had enabled the university to grow to it's current stature in all spheres. As far as preparations and service during the just concluded graduation ceremony, Prof. Derie mentioned Abdinasir Dahir Egeh in a special way, paying his respect and citing the way he conducted the event flawlessly as Master of ceremonies and thanked him for all his tireless efforts which contributed immensely to a successful ceremony.
Prof. Boqore said that this year's graduation ceremony was very successful despite the many challenges incumbent upon the academic year 2020/ 2021 including the effects of covid 19, new bus schedules and programmes due to relocation of all academic activities to main campus from 7:00am - 5@00pm from the previous 7:00am- 12:30pm and 4:00pm-7:30pm during the week. He expressed satisfaction and gratefulness to all deans and directors who had made this year's ceremony a success and a possibility and paid special tribute to all those who participated in planning and management of the event to make it such a great success.
Prof. Suleiman while making the key note address reminisced how Amoud was opened from nothing, with near zero financial or other investment except a great vision "To Restore Hope To The Youth", which resonated very well with the times then and even today as Somalia had just started feeling the negative of the civil strive following the civil and negative effects accompanying. It was not very easy, he noted. The job was not well paying he said, but it entailed great sacrifice and long hours of work. The quality of an institution can be judged by the quality of it's people, he reiterated. Therefore Amoud would be judged by it's local community, whether good or bad, and to this extent, in his view, Amoud had passed the test with flying colours.
You must set your goals to know where you want to go, Prof Suleiman commented. As founding leaders, this he said further, was part of qualities he would want to pass onto the younger generation of managers and leaders who would soon be taking over the mantle of various leadership positions to move the university to the next phase. As a leader you must not look behind and get amazed at your failures but rather keep focusing forward to pursue new achievements. A lecturer, he said, must have his own quality which when added to the quality of the institution, would then make an even greater teacher, he advised. In conclusion, he emphasized honestly as a very vital element in institutional development, a necessary recipe for organizational growth. All these formed part of the wisdom he wished to share with the younger Amoud family members for posterity.
Amoud University held its nineteenth (19th) graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 on Saturday, October 10th, 2020.
