The students normally go through one academic year programme in which they take first year requirement courses for two semesters namely, Semester I, which runs from September 15th of a preceding calendar year to January 31st of each the subsequent calendar year and semester II, which runs from March 1st to July 15th of the same calendar year. Currently five courses are taught in Semester I and another five courses taught in Semester II of each of the freshman academic years. Upon successful completion of the freshman academic year, a student then enrolls for any programme in one of the preferred schools or faculties of the universities as provided that he or she fulfills the minimum entry requirements for that programme and the corresponding subject clusters and qualifies on merit above other students if the chances are few. A student may select through an online portal his or her preferred faculty, department and programme and is then admitted into the Sophomore academic year (second academic year at the university) where he or she may go ahead to specialize in the preferred area of choice.
