In the academic year September 2019/ July 2020 Amoud University enrolled more than one thousand three hundred students in its freshman department.
The students are supposed to transit from freshman department which is a common year for all students undertaking undergraduate studies at the university before they proceed to join various programmes from the many faculties available at the university based on some criteria set by the departments.
In his opening speech, Prof. Suleiman urged the students to make their career choices carefully as this would greatly impact upon their future. He expressed confidence in the team at the university where he praised the high levels of academic qualifications and professionalism of the teaching staff and the administration of the various academic units and central offices including lecturers, deans and directors. He stated that the freshman year is a transition year which is meant to provide a strong foundation for all students for their specializations in the sophomore year onwards and to further act as a transitional year for all students upon completion of their secondary schools and entry into university environment. This model, with a common first year for all students at the university, he emphasized, was advantageous because it gives all students transiting from secondary education level to university education level an equal opportunity to qualify for any programmes they would wish to pursue including the very highly competitive medical programmes and furthermore gives all of them a chance to make better, more informed decisions of career choices based on their concrete academic ability.
Prof. Ahmed A. Boqore, advised the students to make informed decisions about their careers. In his counsel he told them to put into perspective three major elements when making career choices; first they must identify their passion as a leading factor to making them choose careers, secondly to recognize their academic strength to guide their choices so as to make them select a field they will love and enjoy working in and lastly to think about the career opportunities and future job prospects or opportunities in the envisaged field of study. The same advise was given by Saed Hassan Habaneh, Director, Human Resource Department who also happens to be a career guidance and counselling officer. He advised students not to make decisions based on their friends' choices but to put into consideration the three factors including one's interest or passion, area of academic strength as observed in a student's academic performance and ability as identified through grades earned in the exam results and the future prospects of the field of choice in terms of career opportunities that are projected to be available.
Suleiman Hassan Ali, in a closing speech to the students urged them to think wisely and upon making final decisions to select the preferred faculty, programme and department either using the online option available on the website through the link https://www.results.amouduniversity.org or to apply directly face to face through the registrar's office by filling in an application form. The Chief registrar informed students that his office would be opened for department selection purposes from September 1st, 2020 to September 15th, 2020. He further further advised students of the available channels of settling any complaints with regard to marks like grade appeal of seeking redress for any courses where they feel they have not had satisfactory grade returns.
