The colourful, well organized ceremony was held inside the main graduation hall located at main campus, Amoud University, Borama, Somaliland. It was an invite-only, well attended event, full of pomp and colour. Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, president of Amoud University hosted H. E. Muse Biihi, president of Somaliland, who was the chief guest during the auspicious occasion alongside H. E. Dahir Riyale, former president of Somaliland. Other staff of Amoud University present during the memorable occasion were Prof. Ahmed A. Boqore, Senior Vice president, Administration and Finance, Amoud University, Prof. Mohamed M. Jamaa "Derie", Vice president for public relations, community outreach and extra curricular activities, Dr. Mohamed M. Jibril, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Amoud University and Dr. Said Ahmed Walhad, Principal, Amoud College of Health Sciences, all deans of faculties and schools of Amoud University and other members of central administrative units.
Other guests in attendance included various ministers of Somaliland, including Somaliland minister for Health, representatives of collaborating institutions of higher learning such as King's College London (United Kingdom) and Haramaya University (Ethiopia) and partner institutions such as Amoud Foundation, together with parents and families of graduating students.
The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Suleiman who laid out the rich history of Amoud University, not only as a pioneer institution of higher education in Somaliland, but also as a pioneer institution in offering various major programmes in the larger Somali regions context and also nationally within Somaliland. He further announced that Amoud University had launched its first Academic Journal whose first volume had just been produced. Thereafter, Vice President Academic affairs invited all deans of faculties to read out names of the 18th batch of graduates and class of 2019 preceded by conferment of their degrees and award of Diplomas. Various other speakers were called upon to deliver speeches and finally for President of Somaliland H. E. Dahir Riyale had his word and further invited H.E. Muse Biihi who gave a keynote address that marked the culmination of the auspicious occasion. President Muse Biihi gave a glowing tribute to Amoud University for being an excellent academic institution and highlighted the fact that all three former presidents of Somaliland are alumni of the prestigious Amoud University from its earlier time as Amoud Secondary school.
At the closing end of the ceremony, the highest performing students in each and every faculty were identified and given presidential recognition. The event which started at 8.00 am ended at 11.50 am with the graduates going on photo sessions with friends and family.
